Porting your existing mobile number to Jet's Cloud Mobile service lets you keep the number you already use while switching to a cloud-based softphone. This article covers what's required, how the process works, and what to expect on the day of your port.
What You'll Need: The Port Authority Form
To begin a port, you must complete a Port Authority Form. The accuracy of this form is critical — incorrect details will delay or reject the port.
For post-paid numbers, you'll need:
- Your current carrier/provider
- Your account number with that carrier
For pre-paid numbers, you'll need:
- Your current carrier/provider
- The date of birth associated with the account
Make sure these details match exactly what your current carrier has on file before submitting the form. These should match the details on a current invoice.
Before We Submit the Port
Before Jet submits your port request, we ask that you download the softphone app and log in.
This is important because the port typically completes within about an hour, and during that time your number is still active with your old provider. When the transfer happens, it's instant — and if the app is already set up and ready, you can take and make calls and SMS the moment it goes live with no missed calls and no downtime.
Because Cloud Mobile works via a softphone app rather than a physical SIM, there's no need to swap SIM cards — the number simply transfers over.
How the Port Works
- Port Authority Form is submitted with the correct carrier and account details
- Jet submits the port request to your current carrier
- During the porting window (~1 hour), your number remains active on the old provider
- The port completes instantly — your number is now live on Cloud Mobile
- You're ready to call and SMS immediately via the softphone app
What Happens to Your SIM Card
When a number is ported away from a traditional SIM-based carrier, all services tied to that SIM are removed. This includes mobile data. The physical SIM card will stop working once the port is complete.
What this means for you depends on how you plan to use your device:
No further action needed if:
- You're keeping the ported number as a second number on a phone that already has another active SIM or data SIM, or
- You plan to use the desktop softphone only
You may need a data SIM if:
- The ported number was the only SIM on your phone, and you'll be using your phone away from Wi-Fi
In this case, Jet can supply a data-only SIM. Without it, the softphone app will only work when you're connected to Wi-Fi. The data SIM ensures you stay connected when you're out and about.
Summary
| Scenario | Action Required |
